Bank Run Event Center Opens While Metro Park Work Continues

Bank Run’s event center in Lockbourne is accepting reservations and program use, but Columbus and Franklin County Metro Parks still labels the broader park under construction. Current official information supports event-facility access and a paved trail, not an unrestricted grand opening of every planned feature.

The official status is split

Metro Parks’ current Bank Run page lists the park as under construction. It separately says the event center is available by reservation or program use at 1570 Rohr Road in Lockbourne.

That distinction corrects the original CREN headline, which presented Bank Run as Columbus’s fully arrived newest Metro Park. Some facilities are usable, while the agency has not declared the entire park open for unrestricted daily recreation.

What can be reserved

The official page lists two lodges that each accommodate 99 people for seated functions, a 299-person Grand Shelter and a 120-person Flagstone Shelter. It also describes full-site rentals for events with more than 1,000 guests.

Those capacities do not support the original claim of a single 10,000-person event space. CREN found no current Metro Parks page stating that capacity and has withdrawn it.

Trail and slide details

Metro Parks identifies a 3.25-mile paved multipurpose loop around the quarry pond and through the property. The agency warns that the trail may close during event-center activities, so access is conditional.

An earlier Metro Parks construction profile described plans for a 100-foot slide with a 20-foot elevation drop. The current park page does not list the slide among available facilities, so CREN cannot report it as open.

What the development means

The measurable change is a new reservable public-event complex and limited recreational infrastructure on a former YMCA property. No source reviewed measures effects on nearby property values, development demand or business revenue.
